1. Avoid smoking, alcohol and caffeine (the dental trilogy):

Smoking -Exacerbates the narrowing of blood vessels;

Alcohol -dries the mouth and reduces body temperature through evaporation; Caffeine -effects body fluid balance therefore altering saliva production and quality.

2. Avoid COLD foods and drinks, which cause constriction (narrowing) of blood vessels that prevent normal growth and healing, and bring on oral symptoms of Raynaud's phenomena. Attention is to maintain normal body temperature to prevent further restriction of blood flow.

3. Maintain moisture and protective properties in the oral tissues and throat through the daily use of over-the-counter oral moisturizing gel, mouthwash and toothpaste that contain enzymes found in saliva.

a. Use an enzymatic, oral moisturizing gel prior to eating to aid in lubricating the mouth for protection of the delicate lining of the mouth and ease of swallowing. Use at bedtime to maintain moisture in the oral tissues during sleep. Use as a lining in dentures to continually moisten and protect the soft tissues supporting the dentures -especially if wearing your dentures when sleeping.

b. Use an enzymatic, non-alcohol mouthwash in a compact spray bottle to mist the mouth throughout the day to aid in moisture and protection against harmful bacteria and assist in maintaining a pH balance.

c. Use an enzymatic, SLS-free toothpaste twice a day to provide protection at the gum line of teeth where harmful bacteria flourish.
