Above everything else -keep warm! ! ! It is important to keep hands and feet warm, particularly in winter. Use gloves, hand warmers, woollen socks, hats and scarves, if necessary.

Smoking causes blood vessels to narrow so it is important

not to smoke.

Try to keep your body temperature constant, by wearing several light layers of clothes when the weather is cold. You can always take off a layer as the weather warms up during the day.

A void having your hands in the freezer or fridge for too long. U se gloves if you have to search for something in the freezer.

When the weather is doubtful, take a jacket or cardigan and gloves in case of a change.

If you do have an attack, try and warm up your fingers and toes, gently, by using warm not hot water. Don't use direct heat, as this may cause chilblains. Portable hand warmers can be purchased and are quite effective for short periods of time.

Exercise is an excellent way of keeping Warm, and increasing blood flow through the small blood vessels. However, once an attack has started, exercise itself will not restore the circulation. You will need to take active local measures such as putting your hands and feet in warm water...... For more information contact us by email to order your pamphlets.
